About Library LAMN Jams
Library LAMN Jams are ongoing and take place at various libraries within Los Angeles County. There is no fee to submit your material. Here is how it works:
1. Fill out the form below.
2. We review your material.
3. We then submit it to libraries who have requested your genre of music and/or to those locations we believe may have an interest in having you perform.
4. If and when we find a match, we contact you and organize a date.
5. You get promotional efforts of the library system as well as ours (LAMN) and for exceptional artists who get great response, we book additional dates at more libraries.
One great thing about library gigs is the automatic audience you will enjoy, unlike having to guarantee XX number of people at a club gig or worrying about how much alcohol the club sells. Performances at the library are free and open to the public, and artists are welcome to collect names for their mailing lists, sell merch and CDs.
Another great thing about these gigs is that LAMN programs for specific audiences (youth aged 8 to 14, young adults aged 15 to 25, and mature adults aged 25+). Performances for youth and young adults typically happen in the afternoon after school lets out. With enough advance notice, we flyer local high schools and middle schools. For certain genres of music, this is a great way to pick up enthusiastic young fans who are crazy about music but too young to drive (yet!). For example, at LAMN\'s pilot program in the N. Hollywood Regional Library in July-August 2007, we increased youth attendance by over 400%!
Musicians Get Booked
Lastly, this is community building at its best. Music is one of the finest inventions of mankind, and LAMN is thrilled to pair music with books in this series. The power of knowledge and art together gives people some of the most essential things: hope, education and opportunity.
The series has presented - and continues to present - a roster of artists as diverse as the population of Los Angeles itself, and encourages Angelenos to become involved, either as performers, fans or bookworms! This will help audiences gain a better understanding of the rich diversity that makes up our city, and is intended as a vehicle to help people discover ways in which music and books can uplift us and make our lives more civilized.
